The advantage versus e.g. heating elements or cartridge heaters is that the heat output evenly distributed over the entire floor area in the pond, not as a hot spot at one point. Customers confirm reports that the animals are only a few centimeters reside in cold months over the heating tape and so "enjoy" the direct heat radiation.
